The San Francisco 49ers dropped their first game of the 2025 season, falling 26-21 to the Jacksonville Jaguars at Levi’s® Stadium. The Jaguars improved to 3-1.
Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. capitalized on a turnover and QB Trevor Lawrence connected with Hunter Long for two Jaguars touchdowns in the first half. Etienne finished with a TD and 124 yards rushing on 19 carries for Jacksonville.
“It was a complete game for us,” said Lawrence who threw for 174 yards and one TD. “Offensively obviously there’s a lot more out there that we can do. That’s the great thing about it. We’re finding a ways to win and we still feel like we can grow a lot as an offense.”
Parker Washington had Jacksonville’s first punt return touchdown in eight seasons.
“Even when negative things start to occur and we stalled on offense in ways, the defense makes a play. Boom,” said Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said. “Then the punt return for a touchdown. These guys keep having each other’s backs. I think that’s what’s pretty cool after four weeks.”
Down 26-14 49ers QB Brock Purdy led an eight-play, 92-yard drive in just over four minutes, capping it with a 21-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jake Tonges. Purdy went 22 for 38 for 309 yards and two touchdowns but the three turnovers.
The 49ers had opportunities to take control, but a few errors shifted momentum. Two interceptions gave Jacksonville short fields, leading directly to points.
