Jaguars Not Ready for Prime Time Players in 23-7 Loss to Ravens

JACKSONVILLE (Florida Sports Wire) – For the second time before a national TV audience this season the Jacksonville Jaguars lost at home.

If one loss can be worse than another, Sunday’s 23-7 defeat at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens will be remembered as bit worse than a 34-31 Monday Night Football loss to Cincinnati two weeks ago.

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence completed 25 passes on 43 attempts for 264 yards and one touchdown. His 65-yard touchdown completion was the longest touchdown completion of his career. Additionally, his 324 completions this season are the second-most in franchise history through Week 15. Lawrence entered concussion protocol following the game.

Jaguars’ wide receiver Jamal Agnew recorded two receptions for 70 yards and one touchdown. His 65-yard touchdown reception is the longest of his career.

“I felt the defense really came to play. Kind of kept them down. Did some good things in the first half. Obviously, I think it was the third quarter Baltimore did the Baltimore things,” said Jacksonville head coach Doug Pederson. “They began running the football, and those were the things that kind of started to show up in the third quarter. They rattled off a couple of big runs. I thought for the most part the defense kept us in the game, kept us close and did some good things for us.”

Baltimore clinched its playoff spot with the victory in Jacksonville on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 15.

The Ravens are now 11-3 and still sit alone atop the AFC. The Jaguars were leading the AFC South entering the night but fell to 8-6 and part of a three-way tie.

Baltimore got a 16-point win on the road, in primetime, against a top-tier opponent. QB Lamar Jackson was 14 for 24 passing for 171 yards passing and 97 yards rushing including a TD.

“That specific play, when I scored, we knew if the corner grabbed Rid (Calvin Ridley), then I was going to be wide open.

Hats off to the coaching staff for drawing that up, and it worked out just how it did,” added Agnew on the Jaguars’ lone points.

Jacksonville’s Jenkins recorded six tackles (four solo), one interception, 1.0 sack, and one tackle for a loss. Andrew Wingard recorded 11 tackles (10 solo).

Baltimore Head Coach John Harbaugh announced that rookie running back Keaton Mitchell is lost for the season after suffering a “significant” knee injury against the Jaguars.
