(Special to Jax SportsDay) – Ariel Hearn and Lindsey Pulliam each tallied 18 points to help lead the Jacksonville Waves to an 81-75 victory over the Savannah Steel Sunday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Arena. The first-place Waves (17-4) extended their win streak to five games, with all five wins in the current streak coming against the Steel. The Waves have now won 11 of their last 12 contests.
Savannah trailed by 11 in the third quarter but managed to claw back into the game thanks in part to a 31-point performance from Lasha Petree. The Waves excelled down the stretch from the free throw line, converting at 90% in the fourth quarter at the line to keep their distance from Savannah. As a team, Jacksonville shot 87% from the line and also turned 14 Savannah turnovers into 12 points. Shyanne Sellers also pitched in a 17-point performance in the contest. The Steel put forth a gritty effort in the paint outscoring the Waves 44-26 in that area. The Waves remain at home on Thursday (July 23) when they play host to the Greensboro Groove at Vystar Arena. Game time is set for noon.
