JACKSONVILLE (SportsDay) – Despite four scoreless innings from Roland Bolaños, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp were blanked 7-0 by the Nashville Sounds in front of 6,894 fans Friday night at 121 Financial Ballpark .
Bolaños held Nashville (10-9) scoreless for four innings in his Jacksonville (9-9) debut, but the Sounds got hot against Jumbo Shrimp (9-9) reliever Will Stewart (0-1) in the fifth. Brian Navarreto laced a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Back-to-back walks to Monte Harrison and Eddy Alvarez loaded the bases for Abraham Toro, who knocked a two-run single to put Nashville ahead 2-0. Keston Hiura and Jon Singleton followed with consecutive singles of their own to bring in another pair of runs and push the Sounds lead to 4-0.
Nashville added a trio of runs to their lead in the sixth frame. Navaretto started the inning with a single and Harrison was hit by a pitch to put two runners on. Alvarez followed with a double, plating Navaretto to increase the lead to five.
Harrison went to third on the double and scored on a sac fly by Toro. Huira then doubled on a sharp line drive, bringing home the Sounds’ seventh run of the game.
All three of Jacksonville’s hits came off the bat of Jake Mangum and Robert Garcia picked up five strikeouts in his three scoreless innings of relief to round out the contest.
Jacksonville and Nashville continue their series Saturday at 6:35 p.m. RHP Jeff Lingren (1-1, 5.06) starts for the Jumbo Shrimp against the Sounds RHP Robert Stock (0-3, 10.45).
