ACC: No. 7 Notre Dame Pulls Away from 24th-Ranked Seminoles

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Despite holding a one-point lead at the half, No. 24 Florida State Women’s Basketball could not hang on as it fell to No. 7 Notre Dame, 70-47, on Thursday night at Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center.

The Seminoles (18-5, 7-3) were out-scored 27-10 in a decisive third quarter where the Fighting Irish (17-2, 8-1) ended the frame making eight of their last nine shots from the floor.

Sophomore forward Makayla Timpson led FSU with 13 points and 11 rebounds along with four blocked shots, marking her 10th double-double of the season. Over her last three games, Timpson now has 16 blocked shots and has 15 games this year with multiple blocked shots.

Notre Dame was led by Sonia Citron’s 19 points and the Irish out-rebounded the Seminoles 55-37. FSU was out-scored 48-24 in the second half.

It was a defensive first half as FSU held a 23-22 lead heading into the locker room. Ta’Niya Latson led FSU with seven points at intermission, including a basket and foul at the 6:33 mark of the second quarter to give the Seminoles a 19-12 lead.

Notre Dame countered with a 10-0 run to knot the game at 22-22 late in the second quarter. FSU was able to hold the Irish to just 24 percent shooting in the first two quarters, including 0-for-7 from 3-point range.
