NFL Notebook: Local Media, Jaguars Not Expecting Loss in Battle of Small Market Teams

By Mike Bonts, Jacksonville SportsDay

JACKSONVILLE – Hype week before the NFL Wild Card game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Bufalo Bills came to a crashing conclusion Sunday with the Jaguars’ 27-24 loss.

The Bills got some post season monkeys off their back. The Bills won their first road playoff game since 1993 and first Wild Card away game since 1981. The Bills beat the Jaguars in the postseason for the first time.

For the Jaguars, Josh Allen’s last-minute heroics and score silenced a usually pro-home team boisterous press box. Trevor Lawrence’s second interception of the game made the silence even more deafening.

Lawrence completed 18-of-30 passes for 207 yards and three touchdowns. Lawrence now has eight passing touchdowns in his postseason career.

Running back Travis Etienne Jr. registered four receptions for 45 yards and one touchdown and added 10 carries for 67 yards on the ground. He is the fourth running back in franchise history to record a receiving touchdown in a postseason game.

With 154 rushing yards against the Bills, it marked Jacksonville’s most in a postseason game since the Divisional round of the 2017 playoffs (164).

Defensive end Josh Hines-Allen recorded four tackles and 1.0 sack for a loss of 12 yards.

Enough of the small market in a 32-team league chatter.

Shahid Khan is the ninth richest owner in the NFL.  Ninth out of 32. Khan purchased the Jaguars in 2012. He and his son, Tony, are front and center for the day-to-day operations of the club at a net worth of $14.3 billion. The way our city council hands out cash and incentives to Kahn for his various endeavors, look for Shahid to move up the ranking and Tony to expand his wrestling franchise.

Just stay off the streets in a rainstorm, you might run into floods and potholes.
