NFL: Jaguars Late Rally Falls Short in 28-23 Loss to Eagles

After leading 22-0, the Philadelphia Eagles fought off the Jacksonville Jaguars’ second-half comeback bid to pick up a 28-23 win and move to 6-2 on the year.

Nakobe Dean’s interception in the last minute-plus of the fourth quarter sealed the victory– a leaping pick in the left corner of the end zone while in coverage against running back D’Ernest Johnson.

Saquon Barkley had another big day in his first time Kelly Green, rushing for 159 yards and 2 touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving).

Barkley is the second player in NFL history with at least 110 scrimmage yards in seven of his first eight games with a team, joining Pro Football Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson (with the Los Angeles Rams in 1983).

Jacksonville (2-7) quarterback Trevor Lawrence completed 16-of-31 passes for 169 yards and rushed for a career-high-tying two touchdowns. The Jaguars converted two-of-two two-point conversions for the second time in franchise history.

The Jaguars’ Travon Walker recorded a single-game career high seven tackles (six solo), two tackles for loss and one fumble recovery which he returned for a 35-yard touchdown. His defensive touchdown is the first of his career.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was 18 of 24 for 230 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Hurts also did some damage with his legs – 13 carries, 67 yards, and a touchdown.

Hurts is the first player in NFL history with a touchdown pass, rushing touchdown and a passer rating of 115-or-higher in three consecutive games.

Hurts has six rushing touchdowns in his past three games and joined Cam Newton (six rushing touchdowns from Weeks 11-13, 2011) as the only quarterbacks with six rushing touchdowns in a three-game span by a quarterback since 1970.

DeVonta Smith made an amazing catch – one arm, his right, catching an over-the-shoulder throw from Hurts – and somehow, unbelievably, getting his feet inbounds to give the Eagles a 28-16 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Eagles wore their Kelly-Green jerseys for the first time this season and running back LeSean McCoy was inducted into the franchise’s Hall of Fame at halftime.

The Jaguars host the Minnesota Vikings Sunday. The Eagles next play the Cowboys in Dallas.
