ECHL: Jacksonville Icemen Take Opening Game of Playoff Series

JACKSONVILLE (Florida Sports Wire) – Jacksonville’s Matt Vernon was stellar between the pipes as the Icemen took game one of the ECHL Southern Division best of seven series 4-0 over the Florida Everblades.
The Icemen scored three power play goals. Jacksonville was 2 of 6 with a man advantage and committed only one penalty heading into the final five minutes of the game.
Christopher Brown put Jacksonville on top in the final minute of the first period. Olivier Nadeau tallied the second goal of the game just 2:39 into the final period.
Jerry D’Amigo and Derek Lodermeier each scored in the final period. Brandon Fortunato and Brown each had two assists.
Vernon stopped 28 shots. The Everblades’ Cam Johnson made 26 saves.
The teams meet again Sunday at 3 p.m. in Jacksonville then the series shifts to Estero for three scheduled games. (Photo by Henry Massey)
