JACKSONVILLE (Florida Sports Wire) – After eight days off the Jacksonville Icemen (35-18-5-1) showed little rust in defeating the Florida Everblades (31-18-7-2) by a 4-2 score in an ECHL battle Friday night at Veterans Memorial Arena.
Jacksonville’s Noah Laaouan scored his second goal of the season in the opening minute of the first period. Derek Lodermeier and Garrett Van Wyhe picked up the assists.
Lodermeier made it 2-0 with three minutes to play in the period, Brendan Harris and Craig Martin assisted on Lodermeier’s 10th goal of the season.
Logan Lambdin (14) spoiled Matt Vernon’s bid for a shutout in the second stanza. Assists went to Bobo Carpenter and Cam Darcy.
The hosts went up 3-1 on Brendan Harris’ (19) goal, aided by Garret Cockerill and Jerry D’Amigo
Playing shorthanded, Mark Senden (13) cut in to the Jacksonville lead making it 3-2 in the third.
The hosts added to their one-goal advantage when Luc Brown lit the lamp for the 13th time this season, assisted by Harris and Cockerill with 1:17 to play in the game.
Evan Cormier made 17 saves in the loss. Vernon wound up stopping 27 shots. Florida outshot Jacksonville 29 to 21.
The Icemen are home Sunday for a 3 p.m. contest against the Orlando Solar Bears.
AROUND THE ECHL: The Orlando Solar Bears announced the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League have recalled goaltender Brandon Halverson from loan to the Solar Bears. In a corresponding move, the Solar Bears have agreed to terms with goaltender William Lavalliere….the South Carolina Stingrays announced today that goaltender Mitchell Gibson has been re-assigned by Washington from Hershey to South Carolina.
