Sandercock, Leonard Hear Names Called at World Professional Fastpitch Draft

OKLAHOMA CITY (Florida Sports Wire – Current Florida State softball players Kathryn Sandercock and Mack Leonard each heard their name called on Monday night at the Women’s Professional Fastpitch Draft in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Sandercock was drafted with the second pick in the second round and sixth overall by the Texas Smoke which is based in Austin, Texas. Leonard was also drafted by the Texas Smoke with the 18th overall pick in the fifth round.

Sandercock currently holds a 93-11 career record at Florida State and holds a 1.48 career ERA in the Garnet and Gold. Sandercock is a three-time All-American and a two-time All-ACC selection. In 2022, Sandercock was named a top 25 finalist for the 2022 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year. In 2021, Sandercock was named the Women’s College World Series All-Tournament Team as she helped the Seminoles to a National Runner-Up finish. Sandercock will leave Tallahassee with her name all over the record back as she is currently the school record holder for career saves (13), is tied for first for saves in a single season (5), is fourth with 93 career wins and is fifth with 160 appearances.

In just her second year in the Garnet and Gold, Leonard made an immediate in Tallahassee. Leonard was a First Team All-ACC selection in 2022 and was First Team NFCA All-Region selection in 2022. Leonard led the Seminoles in batting average in 2022 with a .377 batting average with eight home runs and 49 RBI. Leonard also saw time in the circle pitching 50.1 innings for the Seminoles in two seasons and has a 3-1 record.

The WPF is entering its second year as a league and is consisted of four teams: Smash It Sports Vipers, USSSA Pride, Oklahoma City Spark and the Texas Smoke. The 2023 WPF season runs from June 15 through August 7 with the playoffs beginning on August 11. Sandercock and Leonard joins Sydney Sherrill as Seminoles who are currently on a WPF roster. Athletes are unable to sign a contract with their respective WPF team until they have exhausted their NCAA eligibility.
