Hockey Notes: Icemen Defeat Atlanta, Open Door for Playoff Run

JACKSONVILLE (Florida Sports Wire) –  With Jacksonville’s 4-3 win over Atlanta the stage is almost set for the Southern Divison Kelly Cup Playoffs.

The actors are ready. Jacksonville joins first place South Carolina, Florida and Greenville. Their final playoff roles will be determined as the league enters the final week of regular season play

Friday’s win eliminated Atlanta.

Chris Grando  began the scoring against the Gladiators with his third goal of the season.

Trailing 2-1 Jacob Panetta (8) and Matheson Iacopelli (19) scored on power plays as Jacksonville went  2 for 4 with a man advantage. The Gladiators were 0 for 1 on the power play.

Mackenzie Dwyer rounded lit the lamp for the first time this season is what proved to be the winning goal. Dwyer also had an assist in the game. Luke Lynch picked up two helpers.

Olaf Lindbom stopped 23  shots in the win.

GAME NOTES: Atlanta goaltender Joe Murdaca made 22 saves. He was also given a game misconduct penalty in the third period for arguing a disputed goal.
