Gator Bowl: Several Gamecocks Earn Post-Season Accolades from Phil Steele

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Florida Sports Wire) – Several University of South Carolina football players have been recognized for their outstanding 2022 seasons, earning spots on Phil Steele’s All-America and All-SEC squads, the national media outlet announced today.

Junior punter Kai Kroeger, who has earned several All-America distinctions, was named fourth-team All-America, according to Steele. Kroeger was also selected as the first-team punter on the All-SEC squad.

Junior wide receiver Antwane Wells Jr. joined Kroeger on the first-team All-SEC unit. Wells was also named Honorable Mention All-American, according to Steele.

Three Gamecocks – junior defensive tackle Tonka Hemingway, junior cornerback Cam Smith and sophomore long snapper Hunter Rogers, earned spots on Steele’s second-team All-SEC squad.

Junior tight end Jaheim Bell was the lone Gamecock to earn third-team All-SEC honors, while senior offensive guard Jovaughn Gwyn and junior defensive end Jordan Burch both secured spots on the All-SEC fourth team.

The Gamecocks (8-4, 4-4 SEC) will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 30, when they travel to Jacksonville, Fla. to face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (8-4) in the 78th edition of the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl. Game time is set for 3:30 pm ET and the contest will be televised nationally on ESPN.
