JU Hoops: Dolphins Cruise to Home Win to Close Out 2021

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville University men’s basketball separated late in the first half and cruised to a 98-45 win over Carver College on Wednesday afternoon.

The Dolphins (8-4) used an 18-0 run over the last 4:54 of the first half to build a double-digit lead it would not relinquish the rest of the day.

JU was without the services of four starters due to injuries and protocols, and the new starting lineup traded baskets with the Cougars early. Tommy Bruner hit a driving layup to go up one with 13:19 to play in the first, and then assisted on an alley-oop to Isaiah Broady on the next possession to get the crowd on its feet.

The dominant stretch to end the half started with George Pridgett feeding Bruner for a corner three, featured a Broady steal that led to a Tyreese Davis transition layup. Davis then hit a three and assisted Bryce Workman on two straight layups. Broady had another thunderous dunk to cap the 18-0 run to end the half with JU leading 52-24.

The second half starting with the two sides trading baskets again, but that quickly ended after a Jacksonville timeout. Bruner made back to back-to-back threes and Workman rattled off four straight points and the Dolphins never looked back.

JU outscored Carver 46-21 in the second half and scored a season-high in points, shooting a blistering 61 percent for the game, also a season-best.
