ECHL: Jacksonville Icemen Defeat Florida Everblades 5-4 in Shootout

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville defeated Florida 5-4 in a shootout Wednesday night at Veterans Memorial Arena. The Icemen scored on all three of their tries, while goaltender Tyler Wall shut out the Everblades.

Trailing by two goals, the Everblades fought back to create a tie going into the final 20 minutes.

Dylan Vander Esch beat Jacksonville Wall to make it 4-3.

With Jacksonville’s Jacob Panetta sitting in the penalty box for hooking, Blake Winiecki tied the game with five seconds to play in the period.

Winiecki remains red hot, as his current point streak has reached 10 games.

The Lakeville, Minn. native has tallied at least one point in each of the Everblades’ 10 November contests, registering 10 goals and six assists over that span. Winiecki was the first ECHL player to reach 10 goals and is currently tied for the ECHL lead.

The first half of the second period belonged to the Icemen. A goal by Luke Lynch followed by a power play tally from Joey Sides made it 4-2.

The Icemen spotted Florida an early 2-0 lead after a pair of goals by Jake Jaremko. Entering the game Jaremko was tied for the league lead with three power-play assists.

But Jacksonville responded. Panetta scored his first goal of the season to cut the visitor’s lead in half.

A goal by Jacksonville leading scorer Ara Nazarian with 53 seconds to play in the first period tied the game.

Wall made 32 stops in the net. Tomas Vomacka made 27 saves for the Everblades.

Florida sports an 36-12-8 all-time record against Jacksonville. The teams met in Estero twice this season, with the Icemen claiming a 5-1 victory on Oct. 23 and a 3-2 shootout win last Saturday

Both clubs meet again Friday night in Jacksonville. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
