ECHL Recap: Jacksonville Wins Third Straight Besting South Carolina, 4-3

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Icemen, riding a two-game ECHL win streak, opened a five-game home stand Tuesday night with 4-3 win over South Carolina at the Veterans Memorial Arena.

Craig Martin scored his fourth goal of the season and second of the game to seal the win.

Nate Pionk gave the visitors a one-goal lead with just 3:29 played in the final period. The Stingrays’ Carter Cowlthorp made it 3-1 with his second tally of the contest.

But the Icemen tied the game with two quick short-handed goals by Derek Lodermeier and Martin.

Cowlthorp opened the scoring in the first period assisted by Patrick Kramer.

Jacksonville tied the game on Vladislav Mikhalchuk’s first goal of the season. Ara Nazarian and Jeff Taylor picked up the assists. Taylor was coming off a productive week after recording five points (2g, 3a) with a +3 rating in four games played.

Hunter Shepard stopped 26 shots in goal for South Carolina. Tyler Wall finished with 21 saves for Jacksonville.

Jacksonville entered tonight’s contest winners of their last two games, both being decided in extra time.

Jacksonville defeated the Maine Mariners 4-3 in overtime at home on Friday, before edging the Florida Everblades 3-2 in a shootout in Estero on Saturday.

The Stingrays have lost four in a row. South Carolina leads the season series 2-1-0-0, while also leading All-Time series 24-17-4-0.

The Icemen open a three-game home series against the Everblades Wednesday night. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
