ECHL: McAdam Stellar in Goal as Icemen Win 4-1 over Solar Bears

Despite a season-high 36 shots on goal, the Orlando Solar Bears (5-4-0-0) could only put one past goaltender Eamon McAdam as Orlando fell 4-1 to the Jacksonville Icemen (3-6-1-0) on Saturday night before 3,571 at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.

Jacksonville scored on the first of three power play opportunities off Joel Messner’s slapshot. Brendan Warren scored his first goal of theseason to makit it 2-0.

A Nick Saracino shot from the blueline was deflected to Mike Szmatula who tapped it home to make it it 3-0. Just 32 seconds later, the Icemen strike again, Pascal Aquin made it a 4-0 game.

Orlando trailed 1-0 after the first period, but Jacksonville matched its season-high with a three-goal outburst in the second frame to take a 4-0 lead and chase Clint Windsor from the net, ending his night at 12-of-16.

Michael Lackey made two saves in relief of Windsor, as J.J. Piccinich scored his second goal of the season for Orlando at 17:19 of the third period to spoil McAdam’s shutout bid.

Orlando was 0 for 1 on the power play.

Orlando’s Jake Coughler and newly acquired Icemen defenseman Trevor Hamilton were sent off for fighting with less than a minute to play in the game.

Hamilton, 25, joins the Icemen after recording 20 points (4g, 16a) in 45 games played last season in Austria with Graz EC.

During the 2018-19 season, the 6-0, 195-pound blueliner collected 14 points (5g, 9a) in 28 games with the Toledo Walleye (ECHL) while also logging three points (1g, 2a) in 17 contests with the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins.
