BOWL RECAP: Sooners Set Records in 55-20 Blowout of Florida

Oklahoma set bowl game program records with 55 points and 684 total yards in a 55-20 rout of the Florida Gators Thursday night in the Cotton Bowl.

Previous records were 48 points (reached four times – in the 1958 Orange Bowl vs. Duke, 1991 Gator Bowl vs. Virginia, 2011 Fiesta Bowl vs. UConn and 2018 Rose Bowl vs. Georgia) and 618 total yards (set in the 1991 Gator Bowl).

Florida quarterback Kyle Trask threw three interceptions in the first quarter. Trask finished 16 of 28 for 158 yards and eventually gave way to backup Emory Jones early in the second half.

A forced fumble by sophomore linebacker Kris Bogle and recovery by junior defensive back Trey Dean III turned into the first of two field goals from junior kicker Evan McPherson.

Following a defensive stop, Florida utilized both Trask and redshirt sophomore quarterback Jones on a 16-play, 88-yard touchdown drive, which the latter finished with a 1-yard scoring run. ‘

After another forced fumble and recovery, the Gators made it 17-13 with McPherson’s second field goal of the night.

Sooner QB Spencer Rattler as 14 of 23 for 247 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed seven times for 40 yards, including and a 1-yard score in the second quarter.

Runnning back Rhamondre Stevenson was named Outstanding Offensive Player of the 2020 Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic. He rushed for a career-high 186 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries, averaging 10.3 yards per rush.

His 15-yard score in the third quarter was his team-leading seventh rushing touchdown of the season.

Oklahaoma kicker Gabe Bkic made field goals of 43 and 20 yards.’

Gators’ freshman QB Anthony Richardson racked up 42 rushing yards on three carries and threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to redshirt junior receiver Jordan Pouncey for the game’s final score.

Florida finishes the season 8-4 overall, with losses in each of its last three games. Wednesday night marked the Gators’ third straight New Year’s Six Bowl appearance.
