ECHL: South Carolina Survives Late Goal, Beats Icemen 2-1

JACKSONVILLE – The South Carolina Stingrays got outstanding goaltending from Hunter Shepard and defeated the Jacksonville Icemen 2-1 at Veterans Memorial Arena before 2,873.

The Icemen scored on a power play goal to cut into the lead with a minute to play in the game.  Derek Lodermeier tallied his first goal of the season with assists to Abbott Girduckis and Wacey Rabbit.

Max Gottlieb made it 2-0 when he slapped a shot by Eamon McAdam from the top of the crease. Mason Morelli got the assist.

Caleb Herbert put the visitors on the board first with his second goal of the season, assisted by Max Novak and Cole Ully.

McAdam stopped 23 shots for the Icemen. The Stingrays’ Shepard, sporting a shutout through two periods, wound up making 31 saves.

The two clubs meet again Saturday night in North Charleston at 6:05 pm.
