HOCKEY NOTEBOOK: Jets Sign Former Icemen Goalie Berdin to a Contract Extension

WINNIPEG –The Winnipeg Jets announced today they have agreed to terms with goaltender Mikhail Berdin on a two-year contract extension with an average annual value in the NHL of $750,000.

The extension includes the 2021-22 season, which is a two-way deal, while the 2022-23 season is a one-way deal.

Berdin, 22, played 42 games for the Manitoba Moose in 2019-20 and went 20-21-1 with a 2.89 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage.

The native of Ufa, Russia started the 2020-21 season with 14 games for SKA St. Petersburg and had a 6-3-2 record with a 2.51 GAA and a .912 SV%.

Berdin originally came to North America when he played two seasons in the USHL with the Sioux Falls Stampede before making his professional debut with the Moose and the ECHL’s Jacksonville Icemen in 2018-19.

Berdin was Winnipeg’s sixth round pick (157th overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft.

NHL Panthers Agree to Terms with Forward Duclair

Florida Panthers General Manager Bill Zito announced that the club has agreed to terms with forward Anthony Duclair on a one-year contract.

Duclair, 25, appeared in 66 games with the Ottawa Senators in 2019-20, producing 40 points (23-17-40).

The 5-foot-11, 198-pound native of Pointe-Claire, Quebec, posted career-highs in goals (23), shorthanded goals (2) and shots on goal (184) and played in the 2020 National Hockey League All-Star Game. Duclair ranked second on the Senators in goals (23), third in even-strength goals (16) and tied for first in power-play goals (5).

He has played in 353 career NHL regular season games for Ottawa (2018-19 to 2019-20), the Columbus Blue Jackets (2018-19), Chicago Blackhawks (2017-18), Arizona Coyotes (2015-16 to 2017-18) and New York Rangers (2014-15), amassing 162 points (79-83-162).

ECHL Top Performers

Diego Cuglietta of the Utah Grizzlies is the Inglasco ECHL Player of the Week for Dec. 11-13. Cuglietta scored one goal and added three assists for four points in two games at Rapid City last week. The 25-year-old had two assists in a 6-4 loss on Friday and notched the game-winning goal while adding another assist in a 3-1 win on Saturday.

Mitch Gillam of the Wichita Thunder is the Warrior Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week. It is the fifth time in his career that he has received the weekly honor, which is tied for third most in ECHL history. Gillam stopped 39 of the 41 shots he faced in Wichita’s 3-2 season-opening win at Tulsa on Friday. A native of Peterborough, Ontario, Gillam has appeared in 128 career ECHL games with Orlando, Worcester and Wichita posting an overall record of 60-50-12 with eight shutouts, a 2.94 goals-against average and a save percentage of .910.
