UNF: Ospreys Comeback Falls Short at Florida Atlantic

BOCA RATON – The Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball team (1-0) took care of business in Monday’s home opener against North Florida (0-3) with a 93-81 win.

Five Owls racked up double digits in scoring behind Allie Tylka’s career-high 19 points.

A career-high 28 points from UNF senior Rhetta Moore and outscoring FAU (1-0) in the final quarter was not enough.

Moore’s 28 points bests her previous career high of 19 set against Warner in November 2019. She was just one shy of her career high in rebounds as well. Her six three-pointers match Mackins’ outing at NC State to open the season and sit in a tie for third for most threes in a game.

“Until we figure out our rebounding, we are going to struggle to get stops on the defensive end. I loved our fourth quarter effort and we learned a little bit more about who we are and how we have to play to be successful. We just have to continue to grow and get better.” said UNF head coach Darrick Gibbs.

UNF’s Jazz Bond had 20 points and nine rebounds. Marissa Mackins had nine points and six assists.

“I’m happy with our scoring output, but I know we have a long way to go in our offensive game and consistent defensive effort,” said FAU head coach Jim Jabir. “But overall, I’m very happy with the win.”
