MLS: Orlando City Drops 2-1 Decision at Inter Miami Ending Win Streak

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Orlando City SC (8-3-8, 32 points) fell by a score of 2-1 on Saturday afternoon against Inter Miami CF (6-11-3, 21 points) at Inter Miami CF Stadium, its first defeat since August 22 following a 12-game unbeaten stretch.

Daryl Dike scored the lone goal for the Lions in the match, his fifth of the season and now trailing only Chris Mueller for the team lead in that category.

Antonio Carlos recorded the assist on the finish, the first of his MLS career. In addition, forward Matheus Aiás made his Orlando City debut in the match, entering in second half stoppage time for Andrés Perea.

“Good first half for us until Miami started reacting and put some better opposition in the middle and just started getting more space in there and started moving the ball. I think the first half [drop off] was pretty much at the end, we had the initiative at the beginning but then Miami started just leveling things,” said Orlando head coach Oscar Pareja.

The home side leveled just before the halftime break after a shot from Blaise Matuidi deflected off the foot of defender Robin Jansson straight into the goal, the Lions’ first own goal conceded since October 6, 2019.

Inter Miami took the lead off of an inswinging corner from Lewis Morgan from the right side, finding the head of Leandro González Pirez in the box for the finish.

The Lions face a quick turnaround, returning home to Exploria Stadium to take on Atlanta United FC on Wednesday, Oct. 28 with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. ET.

Match Notes: Daryl Dike scored his fifth goal of the season on the afternoon, now tied with Nani for second on the team behind only Chris Mueller. Antonio Carlos registered his first MLS assist on Dike’s finish in the 12th minute. Matheus Aiás made his Orlando debut in the match, entering in the 93rd minute. With the loss, the Lions’ Club-record 12-game unbeaten run came to an end. Pareja made three changes to his starting XI in the match, with Pedro Gallese and Sebastián Méndez making their return from international duty, while Kyle Smith re-entered the fold as well.
