JU: Dolphins Earn 8-3 Victory Over Wildcats in Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Jacksonville University baseball (3-6) defeated the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats (4-5) on a rainy night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark by a score of 8-3.

Scott Dubrule picked up where he left off by punching a one-out single to right center to continue his hot hitting but was left stranded after consecutive fly outs.

The Wildcats began the bottom of the first with a single and a walk with both runners then advancing on a wild pitch. A groundout scored the first run of the game. AJ Jones then settled in to retire the next seven batters.

The Dolphins began the third with a one-out single by Ruben Someillan followed by another single from Dubrule and a fielding error that allowed Someillan advance to third.

Anthony George proceeded to triple in both runs and was brought home by a Christian Coipel RBI groundout to put the Dolphins up 3-1.

Tyler McKenna led off the fourth with a four-pitch walk, advancing to second off an infield single by Langston Provitt. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch which contributed to a walk to Someillan to load the bases.

A passed ball advanced the runners and scored McKenna to give the Dolphins a 4-1 lead.

After Jones stranded a Wildcat runner on second in the home half of the fourth, the Dolphins added another run off a triple down the left field line by Cory Heffron to bring home Coipel who had singled to extend the lead 5-1 for the Dolphins in the fifth inning.

Three doubles from Bethune-Cookman in the fifth gave them their second and third runs of the night.

Jones gave way to Mike Cassala in the bottom of the sixth after giving up three earned runs off five hits while striking out five in five innings of work. Cassala proceeded to strike out seven
Wildcat batters over four innings of scoreless work allowing just one hit.

McKenna reached on a tough play single to the second basemen in the top of the eighth. He was pinch run for by Paul Castillo who advanced to third on a throwing error by the pitcher.

After a Dakota Julylia walk and a sac bunt from Duncan Hunter to move him over, Someillan doubled in both runners to increase the lead to 8-3.

The Dolphins welcome Austin Peay University for a three game series beginning Friday, February 28 at 6 p.m. at John Sessions Stadium.

GAME NOTES: Senior OF Ruben Someillan went 3-4 and a walk at the plate with two critical RBI’s in the eighth to give the Dolphins some insurance runs….Tyler McKenna had an On-Base Percentage of .714 after his walk in the fourth…The Dolphins tallied 10+ hits for the second game in a row, both wins. They were led by Someillan with three, Dubrule and George with two.
Someillan hit another double for the Dolphins to put their season total up to 18.
