RECAP: Jaguars Strike Early for First Win of NFL Season

JACKSONVILLE –– Rookie QB Gardner Minshew threw two first quarter touchdowns as Jacksonville defeated Tennessee 20-7 at TIAA Bank Field Thursday night for their first win of the NFL season.

A muffed punt by Adoree Jackson put the Titans behind early. Leon Jacobs recovered the ball at the Tennessee (1-2) seven. Tight end James O’Shaugnessy caught a seven yard TD pass to take advantage of the turnover.

Jacksonville (1-2) drove 62 yards for their next score. Minshew threw a 22-yard scoring pass to DJ Chark Jr.

Chark has four catches for 76 yards, Minshew was 20 of 30 for 204 yards.

The Jacksonville defense was led by Calais Campbell with seven tackles and three sacks.

The Jaguars led 14-0 at the half.

Tennessee averted the shutout with 12:04 to play in the game. Running back Derrick Henry scored on a one-yard run.

Josh Lambo connected on field goals of a 40 and 48 yards.

Tennessee QB Marcus Mariota was 23 of 40 passing for 304 yards. Adam Humphries led the Titans with six catches for 93 yards.

The Jaguars now go on the road to Denver and Carolina before hosting the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 13.

GAME NOTES: Jacksonville’s Myles Jack left the game and was put in the concussion protocol program…the win snapped a two game losing streak when playing on Thursday night…Jacksonville running back Leonard Fournette had a 69-yard run….the Titans were penalized for 101 yards…the Titans had beaten the Jaguars four straight and six of seven games heading into the contest.
