SOCCER: Orlando Pride Falls to Sky Blue in Season Finale

PISCATAWAY, N.J. –  Orlando Pride (8-10-6, 30 points) lost its season finale 1-0 to Sky Blue FC (1-17-6, 9 points) on Saturday afternoon at Yurcak Field.

“Today is a typical day. Particularly the second half, apart from a few minutes before they scored, we were generally dominating the game, in charge of the game, looking comfortable and we suddenly give up a goal,” Pride Head Coach Tom Sermanni said. “Congratulations to Sky Blue. They’ve certainly deserved to win this season. They showed enough endeavour today to stick it out and get that win.”

Sermanni rolled out a starting lineup with Haley Kopmeyer in goal and Ali Krieger, Monica, Shelina Zadorsky and Carson Pickett on defense. Dani Weatherholt, Alanna Kennedy and Christine Nairn started in the midfield with Sydney Leroux, Alex Morgan and Chioma Ubogagu up top.

Rachel Hill replaced Leroux in the 62nd minute; Emily van Egmond came on for Weatherholt and Camila for Nairn in the 84th minute.

After a scoreless first half, Sky Blue’s Carli Lloyd scored the eventual game-winner in the 74th minute.

Leroux finishes the season as the team’s leading scorer with six goals; Marta and Nairn led the team with four assists each.
