Sophomore Campbell Parker scored three touchdowns to help Ponte Vedra improve to 2-0 with a 39-26 win over Palatka (1-1) in the Sharks’ home opener.

Parker’s three-yard pass from QB Jacobi Myers and 36-yard TD run put Ponte Vedra ahead 21-7 at the 5:14 mark of the second quarter. He would tack on a three-yard run in the final period.

Parker finished with 110 yards on 19 rushes. Senior Mark Calvin ran for 68 yards on 18 plays and caught two passes

Kyle Barker opened the scoring with a 37-yard pass from Jack Murrah. Murrah was 8 of 11 passing for 122 yards.

“As a senior Jack understands the cerebral part of the game and what we are trying to do on offense,” said Ponte Vedra coach Matt Toblin. “We are very pleased with how he is running the offense and management of the game.”

Ponte Vedra led at the half 21-14.

“They (Palatka) have some really good athletes and made some plays that kept us on our toes the entire game. We were lucky to come out with the win,” Toblin added.

Myers’ 15-yard TD run closed put the scoring. Myers ran for 69 yards on eight carries. He was 5 of 9 passing for 43 yards.

On defense the Sharks were led by Cole McCormick with nine tackles, Kyle Bondra has seven and Peter Merlini, Caden Fordham and Christian Desanto had five each.

Friday the Sharks will line up on the road against St. Augustine High at Foots Brumley Stadium in the Nation’s Oldest City. The Sharks were shut out last season.

This year’s Yellow Jackets will be mad as hornets after losing for the first time to the Menendez Falcons (2-0), 62-28. The lopsided victory came after St. Augustine (1-1) won the prior 17 meetings by an average of 39 points.

“They are very well coached, do a good job, and I am sure they have paid attention to details and preparation for us as well as being a bit angry over the loss. Should be a well-played game as they have produced one of the best programs over the past 20 years,” Toblin said.

St. Augustine QB Sammy Edwards was 11 of 17 passing for 155 yards. Jose Blanco had seven catches for 110 yards for the ‘Jackets.

Brandon Johnson rushed for 136 yards on 16 carries. Anfernee Wilson 13 times for 123 yards.

The 62 points scored was the most the Yellow Jackets have allowed in 89 years. Daytona Beach Mainland defeated what was then known as Ketterlinus High School 106-0 just one game after Robert E. Lee won 67-0.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
