MLS PREVIEW: Orlando City Hosts Philadelphia Union on Saturday

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando City SC (7-16-2, 23 points) hosts the Philadelphia Union (12-11-3, 39 points) on Saturday, Sept. 1. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET at Orlando City Stadium.

“We’ve watched them, we’ve obviously played them,” Lions head coach James O’Connor said. “I mean they’ve got good attacking players, good rotation in the midfield. They try to isolate in 1-v-1 areas, so we need to make sure we’re on point with that. But equally we need to do a better job of putting, I would say, our stamp on the game. Then when the big moments rise, we need to make sure we have the defensive plays nailed down and then we need to take our chances and score.”

This is the third meeting between these two teams across all competitions in 2018. On April 13, Orlando City defeated Philadelphia 2-0 behind goals from Dom Dwyer and rookie Chris Mueller. Then on July 18, the Union defeated City 1-0 in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal. Both matches were at Talen Energy Stadium.

The Lions enter the match following last Friday’s 2-1 loss to Atlanta United. Scott Sutter equalized for City with his second goal of 2018. Mueller tied Sacha Kljestan for the second-most MLS assists on the team with his sixth of the season, while Will Johnson picked up his first of the campaign.

Philadelphia is coming off a 2-0 win at D.C. United on Wednesday. CJ Sapong and Fafa Picault scored for the Union.

Cory Burke leads the Union with seven goals while Borek Dockal leads the team with 13 assists. Goalkeeper Andre Blake is third in MLS with 98 saves.
